Neurorehabilitation Aid
Neurorehabilitation Aid
Developed for VStim Inc.
The VStim wristband is a wearable, non-invasive upper limb neurorehabilitation device that stimulates muscle-tendons through targeted vibration to reduce spasticity, improve proprioception, and improve upper limb function in patients with proprioception deficiency.
The device is designed to assist individuals who have experienced proprioception loss, commonly occurring following a stroke. During treatment, it aids in enhancing sensory feedback and improving limb awareness, thereby facilitating better movement control and coordination.
VStim is targeting a large addressable market as impairment of proprioception is estimated to occur in up to 50% of individuals with stroke, and the estimated number of total stroke cases in US and Canada is 900,000 per year.
Koven worked with VStim to implement the design by refining the Design Input Specification, supporting vibration motor selection, and assisting with proof-of-concept prototyping to validate clinical Frequency/Amplitude outputs.
Koven worked closely with VStim to develop functional prototypes that VStim is now using for usability and clinical testing to support regulatory objectives and fundraising efforts.
